Shop: Astier de Villatte

A must visit shop in Paris.

I cannot resist a beautiful candle, and truth be told, it is likely that if you stopped by my home or studio at any given moment that a candle would be lit nearby. A tradition within my family that I have grown to love and appreciate as I get older is to start the day with music, coffee, and often, a candle. I love little traditions like these—they are a beautiful way to start the new day.

And while on the topic of tradition, Astier de Villatte, founded by Benoît Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli, and their traditions that are carried on today in the creation of their products are quite intriguing. In fact, their team of twenty ceramicists (perhaps the largest in Paris) create pottery in the very same fashion in which Benoît's father taught him and his siblings. Starting with black Terracotta, each piece is wonderfully finished with a milky glaze that amplifies the unique characteristics of the clay used—no two are alike. Their unique take on ceramics, paper goods, perfumes, candles, furniture, silverware, glassware and more are created in a Bastille workshop that used to house Napolean's silversmith. Do you enjoy their shops and products as well?

  2. Dearest Sarah,

At least 4 of Astier de Vilatte's candles have jasmine in them... That must be heavenly!
Great post and yes, being Dutch by birth I guess made me love candles too but not those with artificial fragrance.
    Love to you,
    Mariette

  4. Sarah I would love to see the delicate differences in the pottery due to the clay used. Adore candles, classical music and my morning coffee.

  5. Beautiful post. During the winter our mornings start with coffee and a lighted candle but it doesn't happen as often in the summertime. I saw on their website that their products are sold in two shops in Luxembourg and they are both close by. I obviously need to pay them a visit. Thanks for sharing!

  6. What a gorgeous looking shop. Those platters are really beautiful as is the stunning chandelier. I would love to see a finished black terracotta with a clear glaze piece to off set this pristine white. :)
