Beautiful neutrals and naturals, rough around the edges.
Though pristine, new surfaces and freshly painted walls may always be appreciated, perhaps the most comforting on the senses are surfaces that show life… surfaces that tell a story of the original maker of the piece and those who enjoy it, not only now, but yesterday, today and tomorrow. Like the well walked upon wood floor in the first image, or the drippy, unevenly toned dishes in the second… the mismatched, accumulated vintage chairs in the dining room, or the speckled counter top in the kitchen…
And then, of course, there is that beautiful space in the last—where nothing is too perfect and calls for many visits and afternoon tea within the confines of stone, wrapped around the room like a favorite blanket you can always count on; a place to relax and unwind in. All in all, perhaps the feeling of comfort is thanks the many layers of neutrals, the bits of natural sprinkled here and there, or the fact that everything is just a little bit rough around the edges…
I hope that you are having a most enjoyable weekend—thanks so much for stopping by!

Dearest Sarah,
ReplyDeleteAll things natural make us feel more bonded and more 'down-to-earth'... Wooden pieces tell a story that keeps on adding and so do handmade things, be it lace or earthenware. Even the stone wall, that lovingly has been build in order to protect its loved ones beneath it from the elements and from outside dangers.
Hope you had a lovely Pentecost Sunday.
Love to you,
Mariette
ust gorgeous sarah xx
ReplyDeleteSo calming, these spaces. Stone walls seem to make people stop a while and want to linger - I certainly would in the last space. But I do agree with you, these sorts of spaces are comforting. Perhaps not take your breath away, throw you to the ground with delight beauty, but a quieter type which is beautiful nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully said!
