A warm and welcoming family home.
I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend so far! I certainly am, enjoying the little bit of snow that we have left for the time being, and staying cozy indoors. This beautiful home featured today has been in my magazine library for a few years now, and seems to embody warmth and coziness in abundance, and very effortlessly so. The spaces seem so approachable and inviting...
Nothing looks too precious, or untouchable, which is particularly simpler with young ones at home. There also seems to be a nice balance of fine pieces and those that are a little more casual and comfortable; as well as masculinity with a dash of more feminine pieces. In the medley of such, lies great personality.
Apart from the obvious look and feel, there are a number of details to look at, beginning with the incredible wood detailing in the first space, and the juxtaposition of the ornate chairs against the slouchy sofa seating. I find that as you look again and again, you notice more and more... Do you enjoy this home?

It looks like a real home, not an editorial. I love the dark blue/gray sofa with the ottomans. Yes, Sarah, I enjoyed this home very much. xx's
ReplyDeletethat is just stunning! xx
ReplyDeleteDearest Sarah,
ReplyDeleteThe oak wood paneling is incredible indeed! It almost creates the warmth and coziness which we find in a Rembrandt painting. But still livable and easy to match with modern pieces. Love the tiled flooring as well and the tall windows with lots of light... Don't have the luxury for staying on this post but otherwise, yes I could start filling in more and more!
Love to you and a great Sunday.
Mariette
PS this comes closer to home for me, where I grew up in the Burgundian Province of Limburg, The Netherlands. In my 3 wedding posts from past week, you can find more Burgundian charm.
I love how they've decorated contrary to the historic and ornate architecture, fixtures, millwork, etc.. It's like you've said, there's nothing too precious in the home. I find the juxtaposition of these 2 extremes very interesting... a kind of minimalism & ornateness living together... there's almost a tension that's created between the two, but not one that's off putting. Rather, it's symbiotic.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I sound so esoteric in my ramblings!! ;-)

I like the second picture sofa covered with stone washed linen! Have this Elle DE issue and like this picture still! Thanks for reminding me ...
ReplyDeleteThis is truly a beautiful with well appointed details. perfect combination of clean modern design with character and warmth. A well lived in space. Hope you are enjoying the snow! we just had our first snow of the year this week end.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful home, Sarah. Very warm and comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this gorgeous home. Love every room.

Sarah , the floor of the home is divine. Looks like some of the 19th century buildings in the city of Willemstad here in Curacao. They are now making a "come-back" with more modern homes adding this tile feature to some of their rooms. Quite impressive.
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend.
xx

OH MY!
ReplyDeleteI would like to sit at the desk in the first photograph and write poetry or a love letter.
And then cook a dinner for friends and family. You should come over!
I am enjoying the weekend: five inches of snow yesterday made for some beautiful photographs of cardinals at the feeder in our backyard. I made no-knead bread yesterday which I will cook late this afternoon--Honey Rye.
such a beautiful home, there are so many great details - being a collector of light fixtures, their nice collection popped out right away.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful home, a clear example that details are the ones that make the difference every time. The dining-room is my favourite room, combining new and old, minimalist and ornate, black and cream, wood and glass, there are so many incredible details there. I hope you're enjoying a cozy weekend, Sarah! xo

I really like the use of black in this home. It's not imposing in any way. And that couch is so inviting.
ReplyDeleteMariette: I always enjoy reading your observations, and I will definitely visit your blog soon :)
ReplyDeleteVictoria: No, no I really like reading the things you appreciate!
Francine: I just knew you would like this home... I hope you had a cozy weekend. x
Priscilla: Fascinating!
Bruce: Sounds perfect to me :)
This definitely looks like a real home to me, very welcoming and has that relaxed atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteBut I have a confession to make: I need to throw out that awful black horse. I can't look at it! And I can't stand the sofa; I'd definitely throw it out and get another one ;-)
it's beautiful! i can't get over how such a functional and cozy space is at the same time, designed so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteDream home...love how weathered and worn in it is plus modern and traditional at the same time. The first image is gorgeous! It's everything wrapped into one.
ReplyDeleteLisa: You are too funny—I adore the horse :) but always enjoy honest feedback. x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful details in this home .. and I love the horse too! It's such a surprise you don't expect to see ... but I'm with Lisa on the sofa! lol
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Sarah! xo
