In The Spirit of Kindness: Local

Shopping your local boutiques.

I felt compelled to share my excitement that local design and shop, 18 Karat, has returned again to Vancouver! (they had to close earlier this year) I am thrilled to have them back in the neighbourhood, so that I may include them in my Christmas shopping! I strongly believe in supporting local shops (both physical and online) as much as possible. Do not get me wrong, I also enjoy ordering lovely things from all over the world, and the wonderful opportunity to do so. However, I think it also important to keep those we enjoy visiting in our city, in business. Do you have some favorite local shops to visit this Christmas?

(Do you think Santa could make it down the chimney with this chair or this vase?)
Also, do stop by if you have a moment—this week's {take me away} post discusses holiday etiquette, with a focus on tipping and gifting for wonderful service during this special time of year...

  1. Enjoyed the etiquette post, Sarah.
These images are so beautiful, an dyes I do love shopping in my hometown. There is something warm about seeing familiar faces at Christmastime.
Hope that you are having a nice week.

  2. Dearest Sarah,

Such joy to read your post about etiquette; perfect for the Christmas season! Wish the world would pick up where they left in the 80s and early 90s...
Your 18 KARAT company is quite impressive and it speaks volumes for it being available in North America, Switzerland and Japan.
    Love to you,

  3. Those bowls. They're exactly what I'm looking for.

  4. I adore those bowls too! I so appreciate you sharing in my joy(new baby). You are a kindred soul. This post is a lovely feast for my sleep deprived eyes:-). I have to check out your etiquette post too- i know it will be enlightening. Happy weekend to you sweet friend. XX

  5. Elizabeth Jaime & Stacey: 18 Karat is still working on their website, but soon everything will be up and readily available for shopping and shipping—they are beautiful pieces! x

  6. always adore your stylish findings ... really love the interior products, beautiful crafting and design! x

    Happy Holidays lovely! xoxo

  7. I agree Sarah, shopping local is a treat not only for the shopper but also for the shop owner- they always seem much more appreciative of your stopping by and buying something from them. It's a nicer vibe all round I think.
    Have a great weekend.

  8. I try really hard to buy from my town to support the locals...adore your finds...the throw is fabulous!!

  9. it's lovely your attitude, Sarah. I like to buy from locals too! and yes, Santa will manage to make it down the chimney with that gorgeous chair {remember he is magic} ;) xo

  10. Helen: Definitely! And thank you also for the lovely comment on {this is glamorous} for the {take me away} post this week :)

Caroline: I really wish so! I could just live in this chair, with coffee and my laptop... x

  11. I am all about supporting local boutiques, and I agree with you, I don't think we have to choose one or the other! It's all about finding a balance and making a point to stop by for a visit. Beautiful images, as usual. I'm sorry I haven't left you a note in some time, but I always visit Haute Design for some escapism! Great to hear from you! Hope you're well, and if I don't talk to you before the big day, have an amazing Christmas! xox

  12. thanks for these gorgeous images, just lovely! xxx

  13. How pretty is she? Makes me long for thick hair. Great idea. As I mentioned in my previous comment I'm behind in gift buying so I think I will go downtown there is a great little boutique that has gifts/ beautiful jewelry. Don't think I can deal with the crowds at the mall! Sometimes the boutiques are where you find that one of a kind unique item anyways. xo

  14. Caroline: Definitely :) And no problem about the visits—Merry Christmas to you and your family! xo

Debby: I quite agree, and actually love vintage and antique shopping for those who will appreciate it... but I also stop into concept shops for really unique and often one-of-a-kind things! (plus my favorite fashion shops)

  15. I lovvvvvvve this post so much, the words and images. I live in Victoria BC and work at Onlyhuman Modern Furniture, a small local furniture boutique and have learned just how important it is to support the community. Love the blog, I am excited to keep following!
