Just in time for today's celebration of Bastille Day, I thought it most fun to share one of my favorite ladies residing in France—Carla Bruni. Married to President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, she is considered France's First lady. She first went to Paris to study art and architecture, but actually left school at 19 to pursue a modeling career. Starting off with Guess? she moved up in the fashion world, working for a number of well respected, luxury designers such as Christian Dior, Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Yves Saint-Laurent, Shiatzy Chen, Chanel and Versace...
this is one of my favorites) She often incorporated beautiful poetry into her works, including some of Emily Dickinson's, William Butler Yeats' and Christina Rossetti's. She produced a few albums of her own, but has brought her voice to many in other ways, such as singing at Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday on July 18th, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, and also took part in the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in a parade paying tribute to the Italian flag. As for her acting career, she has been in a few films and you might notice her in the new movie, Midnight in Paris, in which she plays the role of a guide at the Musée Rodin!
Her Foundation, Charity Work & Life
As for personal life, it was not always been smooth sailing, but I am hopeful that things are at ease in her marriage to Sarkozy, which was in February 2008. But one can truly appreciate her heart when you see so much of her time now dedicated to many causes and charity work, under her foundation, Fondation Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, and otherwise. Some situations in the world are just heart-wrenching as we know, and I am so happy to learn that Carla is using her resources and energy to assist those who truly need it... and I believe quite truthfully, that as we appreciate her wonderful career success, beauty and talent, her recent work is the most important work of all...
+ Did you know? She has one son who is 11, named Aurélien Enthoven (with Raphaël Enthoven) and her husband, three children. However, this Winter her and her husband are expecting their first as a couple!
