Inspiration: La Carnaval de Versailles

A magical evening of opulence & competition.

Can you just imagine? As I was enjoying these pictures this morning with a cup of coffee, I thought of how fun it would be to attend—and what a lovely idea for a competition. A little quote from the event's official website: "If there is one place where all the extravagances may be permitted it is certainly the Palace of Versailles. Let yourself be swept away in this baroque setting saturated with history. Be a royal figure, a courtier, a Venetian Doge, a musketeer, a Russian archduke, a lady in waiting or a Persian princess: the only requirement is to meet the demands of the Court. Some commoners may mingle with the guests, but they will do so at their own risk!

You must be at your most inventive in matching petticoats, bodice. The Orangerie of the Palace of Versailles will become for one night the most elegant, the most fanciful and the most refined ballroom..."

These images by Alix of The Cherry Blossom Girl are such a wonderful depiction of the evening. (Part 01) I know that I would certainly wear my most treasured, dainty antique gloves. If you were attending, what would you like to wear? Tones of pink, lavender, green, red, or gold perhaps? Would you wear a little lacey mask and adornments in your hair? The imagination soars!

  5. Oh these images are stunning! I love masquerade balls; the idea of wearing a mask and being unrecognisable has a certain appeal. Thank you for sharing these with us! xx

  6. Her blog is always just so much fun. I always wanted to go to a masked ball, it just seems like so much fun! xo

  7. WOW, I don't know who I would be, but it would certainly have to involve over-the-top, beautiful costuming! Haven't dressed up for an event (other than for Halloween parties) since my husband and I attended an autumn "Somewhere In Time" annual weekend at Mackinac Island in Michigan several years ago. I've always loved the romance of this old movie and it was so fun to attend the events on the island where the movie was made, meet some of the actors from the film during the weekend and be a part of an evening where everyone was dressed in the period costume such as the outfits that Jane Seymour wore in the movie. Fun fun fun!

  10. Dearest Sarah,

Thanks for your visits and comments. Yeah, I wore my Escada shoes in the picture...
These photos are such pieces of art and so fun to see the different details of the garments. Looks like those fabrics from the bygone era are far more regal looking than what we have nowadays!

Enjoy a happy and sunny weekend, with lots of love,
