Photography: James Moes

Wedding: Meghan + Alex Atwood Ranch, Sonoma Valley, CA.

When I first began to follow the work of James Moes, (back in 2008) photographer and art director, I was instantly and completely captivated by his unique way of capturing special moments between people. Whether photographing engagements or weddings, he perfectly records the essence of the emotions, the feelings that are shared, the tone of the special day. Tone is one of the most important factors, I find, and he has a keen, detail-oriented eye that is able to translate such in a very real and tangible way. (just a few favorites here and here) He might note the special way in which the invitations are displayed, maybe the hands of a loved one assisting another to make sure all aspects are perfect, maybe a sweet glance, almost unnoticed. Within the frame of his lens, many, many valuable, evanescent moments of the day lie and are entrusted...

You can almost hear the very sounds of the day through these images... the voices of loved ones smiling though words, hand gestures, laugh lines... the sweetly spoken language of marriage between God, the pastor, the special couple... the cheerful joy of union, when gleeful tears are shed from the heart, and when all has been said and signatures have been signed... when memories and tales are re-lived through speech, over colorful cuisine and... when pure fun is had at the end of it all, in celebration, with Polaroid-style reels, where individual characters that attended, in joy, are revealed...

I grew up near Sonoma - it's so idealistic for a wedding. Great selection of photography!

  12. Great session. I love the colouring that you used. The effect of natural lighting and focus on the detail in the first part is quite stunning, but the life that one can feel from the photos in the second part, that is just unbelievable.

  13. Beautiful photo's! I really love the ones from the ceremony in the field, so dreamy and just like a movie. The last couple of photo's look like so much fun, as if they were dropping by the photographer for a few seconds and then dancing away again..
