A Beachside Cottage

An open, shingled cottage, set up on a hill in Montauk, New York.

I find this modern, clean and contemporary getaway home so intriguing! The thought of enjoying sailboats, little shops, markets and time by the beach sounds perfect... I picture children running around barefoot and swimming, freshly cut watermelon slices on the counter, (for easy reach) lanterns lining the deck at night with soft candlelight... and early morning coffee with the doors and windows wide open, celebrating the view... I love it as is, but I would add a little of this and this, some great curtains that puddle on the floor, and very little else. Do you like the clean look of it? If it were yours, what would you add?

  1. Love it, so open, chic, clean and uncluttered. I adore the living area and kitchen the most. For me, i would leave it as it is. I wouldn't add in any more elements as it might disrupt the "look".

  2. This really is my style...but on the east coast...I love large rustic finished interiors with modern furnishings and a modern approach to living. Especially vacation homes, you are suppose to leave all your worries behind.

    Great find!!!

    Best,

  7. That beach house if amazing. I love the views and the openness to the outdoors. For me it is a little too sterile but that is just personal taste, and it may be because I know I could never keep it looking that clean so it would be annoying. I need to have a style that incorporates some level of clutter into it so I'm not stressed.

  11. My heart just broke into pieces and fell to the floor. I would change nothing. Add nothing. Except Me to that pool. Yeah. I would add me to that pool. That's it.

  13. Sarah, I'm singing...I LOVE IT! Okay, you know I'm going to love this, since Coastal is in my blood. Answer to your question. There's is not much I would change. But since I can feel at home here, this is easy because I am picturing it as if I'm moving in. As long as a room has some good books, designer would be nice, good music, something great to drink, etc.

With that I would add some big chunky gorgeous white only shells not much and a room has to have some fresh flowers, I would put indigo and some white roses, plain and simple.

I love a house without window dressing. That's how my house is so the views are not blocked. But I'm on a farm in the country and being born and raised and lived most of my life on the Monterey Peninsula I miss it. I like uncluttered, simple and feeling open. I also loved the reclaimed wood in the corner hall.

I'm only thinking, books, music and flowers because that's what I do not want to live without, other than that I'm ready to move in.:)
