Happy Weekend!

A beautiful, old, old courtyard tucked away...

Comfortably enclosed by stone walls, wood panels, curtains, and nature. Topped off with a glistening chandelier, a welcoming table, and cute children, it's the perfect spot for a Mother's Day brunch. It almost feels like a whimsical fairytale come to life, doesn't it? Can you imagine the fun memories – parties, romantic evenings, children's birthdays that could take place here...on a side note, I wonder if there is a pool.

I recall years ago, looking at a beautiful home that was for sale – it was entirely built around a central square courtyard, which was open, just like this one above. The house, which was two floors, seemed to have such a wonderful feeling. I remember that because of the large windows, doors and breezeways, no matter where you looked, you were in touch with and surrounded by nature. I would love to build that house one day. I remember exploring, room to room, and adoring the feel...and although it wasn't meant to be ours, it remains locked in my memory...Do you enjoy courtyards? Would you ever like to create one?

  3. Hmm, fresh coffee and cantaloupe for breakfast under a swinging chandelier...
A courtyard sounds wonderful especially if it has a small trickling garden fountain in a corner like one I remember from a holiday.

  6. LOVE COURTYARDS.........
LOVE TO FIND A HOUSE IN EUROPE WITH A CENTRAL COURTYARD.. STONE HOUSE... WHY ARE THEY STILL MORE AFFORTABLE THEN THE HOMES IN THE US???
DOES ANY ONE ELSE FEEL THAT WAY??? I WOULD PREFER A HOUSE A LITTLE OUTSIDE OF A TOWN WITH SOME ACRES AROUND IT.... I'M NOT INTO NEW HOUSES IN DEVELOPMENTS.... AND WOULD RATHER HAVE A SMALL HOUSE SO THAT I CAN HAVE LAND AROUND ME TO GARDEN AND HAVE ANIMALS...

  8. I love courtyards, having grown up in France, a graveled courtyard was part of the landscape. The instant I looked at the house I now live in, I made an offer...a stone U shape stable with a courtyard! My best friend was married in that courtyard which just a few days before the wedding I had gravelled. The images are just so beautiful and poetic, perfect for a Mother's day.

i LOVE the idea of a courtyard. these photos but especially your description convinced me i need one! how nice it would be to look out virtually every window onto the same central space. such a cool design! i hope you do design that house some day because i know someone who would love to see it :)

  15. Splendid Willow, what a lovely comment...I love her so much too...I have always felt blessed to be Sarah's Mom. I too appreciate her many talents... her humbleness, her genuineness ...her spontaneous laughter...her giving nature...her friendship...and her generous love...while I raised her, many of these were natural in her personality...

Sarah, these pictures are making me want some serious summer weather because there's nothing I love more than dinners in our gravel courtyard as you know :)

and if you don't build that house, I may have to...I can still picture it all...

  20. I would love a central courtyard...something about it is so romantic and old. Courtyard is such a historic feature, it is nearly impossible to find a properly constructed courtyard and house establishment these days :) I don't quite understand why, when they are sooo charming!

    Stunning post!
