Our 5th Anniversary

I couldn't be happier today! My David and I are celebrating our 5th Anniversary!

It seems like just yesterday that we met in UniversityI, keenly focused on my studies, and David, outgoing, intelligent, and the most talented designer in the program. He caught my attention, though, I didn't let on. That's right, I played hard to get for, oh, a month of two. Our sometimes deep, sometimes light, late night chats, my glances during lectures, and his mischievous (dropping a penny in my boot, and I didn't even know it!) and unexpected sense of humour made me realize that I was missing out on a really fun relationship.

It was the wee hours of the morning, February 17th, 2005, that I opened my inbox to find a message from him. Nothing could have prepared me for that moment...I opened the message to find a beautiful, and I mean beautiful, Valentine's Day card, designed especially for me...complete with a sweet illustration, a poem, and noteall in an array of pink, black and white. As tears were filling in my eyes, I thanked God for sending me this very special person. This person who, in such a short period of time, had made such a strong impression on me.

Since then, our strong bond has been built upon mutual respect, appreciation for one another, and a love so, so strong. Every once in awhile, I look back on my journal entries, outlining momentous occasions, challenges, fun times, and the beautiful, special moments that we have shared over the past 5 years. We are fortunate enough to see each other everyday, as we share an office space, and even work on some projects together...and even now, I wake up every single morning, so happy to be alive, and so blessed to be able to share my life with the most indescribable, amazing man...

  4. congratulations and happy anniversary! this is such a sweet and cute story of falling in love. this might sound a little silly, but before i fell in love myself, i thought that the love stories in movies were so perfect and how could anything in real life ever be as romantic? now i realize that real life love stories are actually more romantic and much more touching than anything i could ever see in a movie. congratulations again on finding someone so special to you, i know exactly how it feels :)

What a lovely story...I can't believe how time flies. Seven years for us this year and in some ways it seems like yesterday we met (although I also can't remember a world without him).

  19. Happy anniversary, Sarah! What a wonderful and romantic story of how you and David met....sigh.

I just realized that Sunday was the 5th Valentine's Day that Dave and I celebrated together. He's not particularly romantic about Valentine's(his first V-day gift to me was a blender!) but he makes up for it the rest of the year.

  21. Time does fly by...I cant imagine anyone else more compatible for me than you. In the 5 years we've been together, we have never fought once, which is amazing in itself. It's truly a blessing when two people are so right for each other that co-existing with one another is a breeze. I guess we've been mature enough along the way to accept each others flaws, and rejoice on our good
    qualities as a couple.

As someone mentioned, "we complete each other", the qualities I lack, you help me balance them out with your own and vice versa. Our opposites compliment one another, and the common things we share help establish a fundamental ground in our relationship. We've learned to respect one another, and most importantly we work as a team, helping each other out. As much as we are a couple, we're also friends who see past our differences. In time, we've grown to be comfortable with each other.

I remember that 'penny-dropping' day fairly well actually. When I think about it, it's a bit awkward dropping a penny in someone's boot. I remember we were standing in a design lecture, and I wanted to stand beside you. There were a couple of students in front of me that prevented that from happening. I didn't want to disturb anyone in trying to get your attention, so I reached in my pocket for a coin…all I had was pennies. I figured if I aim at the gap in your boot it would so inside and you would feel it, turn around and see me without making too much noise to disturb the lecture or anyone else. As awkward as that was, I'm glad I did it, because it gave the opportunity to get you to stand beside me.

I'm also thankful for the Valentine's Day card i sent. I literally poured my heart and soul when I designed it and wrote it. I remember breaking into your account so I could steal an image of you to use in the card. I remember saying to myself "If this doesn't work, I don't know what will". I guess my sincerity worked in our favour when you read it. I'm not one to write 'love' notes, but that day, I'm glad I did that or I would have missed out otherwise. Everything feels like it happened yesterday.

I love you sweetie, and I hope God gives us many more years together.

    David

  24. Nothing (& I mean nothing) is more soul satisfying than a good love story; you & David have that Sarah. Some people find true love and I don't think it's always as easy as one would think. I want what you two have for all my four children. True love ♥

Happy..happy Anniversary to you both x
