The Plaza Residences

The Plaza...home to little, mischievous and fictitious Eloise, featured in numerous films such Home Alone 2, and Bridewars...a place that is above all else, elegant, and one that many dream to be a part of...and what a dream to be able to own a piece of it! With around the clock service, legendary amenities, and most importantly, an exquisite pied-à-terre, who would want to leave?

For some reason, each year, I crave a visit to New York in the Winter. Perhaps it's the beautiful idea of ice skating in picturesque Central Park, being bundled up, wandering the crisp streets and window shopping, (and window display admiring, of course!) the outstanding performances, or maybe the romantic notion that the hustle and bustle of it all is so wonderful to be a part of. I typically visit during summer months, but wouldn't it be amazing to spend a Christmas there one year? Have you ever dreamed of spending Christmas in New York?

A Little Interesting Info.

"The French Renaissance chateau—style building was designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh and opened to the public on October 1, 1907. At the time, it cost $12.5 million to construct. When it opened, a room at the Plaza Hotel was only $2.50. Today, the same room costs $3,750.00." (More info here)

"After a $400 million, threeyear, lobby to roof restoration by New York's ELAD Properties, The Plaza Hotel re-opened in March 2008.

The Plaza continues its long tradition as New York's premier six-star hotel, while welcoming a new tradition
The Plaza Residenceswhich New York's lucky few can call home. This iconic Beaux-Arts masterpiece, at the crossroads between the fabled Central Park and the legacy of Fifth Avenue, is considered to be a cornerstone of New York. The restored masterpiece is now home to 180 elegant condominiums, including multilevel penthouses, magnificent suites and grand apartments."

  2. love NY in the Christmas. great post. interestingly enough i read about a year ago (in the NYTs i believe) that sales of these residences weren't going so well...they interviewed residents who lived there & they said it was a little Eloise-y in that they felt alone. A little bit eery is how it was described.

  5. Pure luxury and beauty! I love the chateau style... it is very distinct. It has very interesting to know a bit of the history.

I've spent Christmas and New Years in NYC with my family when I saw younger and all I remember is that there was a crazy snow storm :P But the city is stunning and I would definitely go back during the winter just to give it a second try :)

  11. I visited the Plaza just over a year ago when they had their grad re-opening. The rooms are stunning! The private residences that face the park were designed by Versace and feature the best of the Versace Home Collection.

  12. These are GORGEOUS. I'm glad to see it's retained all its glamor! There was so much controversy when they began renovating and a lot of accusations that the quality was going down. Guess not!

  13. Luxury Interiors -- thank you :) I will definitely check out that link to your blog.

Skyla -- I have read that, also! It was beautiful when I visited it as a hotel, and now, I too am happy that it has retained the beauty and luxury that was first so carefully created. The Plaza is legendary!

  14. Hi Sarah
Marvellous is the Plaza. I have long wanted to visit New York and The Plaza. I have never seen a White Christmas [summer in Australia], so one day in this lifetime I will see New York at Christmas. If I'm extra good.. maybe even the Plaza!

Thanks for a lovely post to fuel my dreams

  15. Please don't believe the hype on their website. The renovation was a disaster. Even Eloise has moved out.

  17. Christmas in NYC is the very best time of year to go. Sure it's a bit cold, but all the decorations are up and just SO magical. Besides, it doesn't get REALLY cold until Jan/Feb anyhow.

Oh and I LOVED Eloise as a child. My sister and I use to dream of living in the Plaza!
