Detail of The Week

Welcome to a new week, friends! I'm dying to do a roundup of some of my favorite posts that you have created recently, but there are far too many! I have been enjoying catching up with you and your blogs...Today is a holiday here, so I'm going to get out of the house and enjoy some of this beautiful, sunny Fall weather, but wanted to post my "Detail of the Week" before setting out...

On a side note: have you ever tried pumpkin spice ice cream? Yesterday was my first time, and I must say, it's delicious. If you haven't tried it, and like pumpkin, you must! My aunt made it actually, and served it with pumpkin pie. For a great recipe, click here /You don't own an ice cream maker? No problem, try this. Divine!

Building codes in my area are quite strict—so there have been times when I have filed an image of something really architecturally interesting, and then have found out that we are unable to do the same thing here. One of them being stairs sans railing. Here are just a few examples of some of the most beautiful ones I've seen...I'm not certain it's safe or even practical for that matter, but I suppose given the right space, lifestyle and people, it could be amazing!

What are your thoughts on this detail?

  1. I love the look! I'm especially drawn to that kitchen! I think it could be used wonderfully as a decor 'ladder,' and less for functional purposes.

Enjoy the holiday! I will definitely try the pumpkin spice ice cream!

  2. Pumpkin spice ice cream is my favorite. Thanks for the recipe link. I really love the stairs, but I can understand how they would be dangerous if you had small children. Still, I think the second picture of the stairs leading up to the loft is particularly stunning.

  3. I love the modern-yet-rustic style of a lot of these staircases. Visually, stairs sans railings is stunning, but it IS a safety hazard and with children, pets and being clumsy myself, I wouldn't want it in my house (not that the TX building codes would allow this either...we have to have railings no less than 18in. apart).

  4. LOVE! This look always reminds me of the staircase in Molly & Sam's Soho loft in the movie Ghosts! Remember that gorgeous space!!?? That place is a post all its own, come to think of it!

  8. I've been meaning to get on your blog! I absolutely LOVE your space! Inspiring, beautiful, and entertaining! Thanks for stopping by some time ago, I was in the throes of fashion weeks, but I couldn't resist coming and thanking you for visiting me!

I love these fotos, particularly the woman walking up those stairs. Everything about these fotos have a vintage yet modern feel to them. Thoroughly inspired!

  10. Love it except for the kid part. Not to safe with them or the older crowd. But very cool looking. I may limit my alcohol consumption around them too :) Still, love the look!
