Interior: A Dash of Sunshine

Winter's own lemonade.

Good evening! I hope that your weekend is going very well so far. Surprisingly, I awoke to a bit of freshly fallen snow this morning—though I was almost certain that we were through with snow for the better part of the year. However I long for snow, come mid to late January, I also find myself craving something or things afresh in lightness, brightness, and life during this time of year...

Adding yellows (in large or small ways) often provides the perfect source of brightness and warmth—particularly when they are on the slightly more sunny/golden side of the spectrum. A year or so ago, I purchased two large, cylinder, straight vases in a brilliant yellow. I keep them in storage for months at a time until after Christmas, after New Years, and just as the days begin to lengthen a little, and I need a little refreshment... do you find yourself desiring yellow from time to time as well?

Runway: Vogue's View

Backstage and Front-Row Photographs from the Couture Shows.

There are many beautiful designs to appreciate from the couture shows—some that completely stop the heart! I particularly enjoyed these images captured by Kevin Tachman for Vogue. Some are so candid, and others, sweet—you can almost feel the energy and excitement of the day just by looking at them. Above and below, you will see snippets of the following shows: Armani Privé, Christian Dior, Giambattista Valli, and Versace.

Interior: Féau & Cie Boiserie

The incredible beauty of decorative woodwork.

This respected and well-recognized firm dates back to 1875, when C. Fournier enjoyed collaborations with a number of distinguished architects—on buildings such as: the Palais Rose, located in Paris, and the Villa Ephrusi for Rothschild at St Jean Cap Ferrat...

It was in 1919 with D. Greloux, that they continued their work in the pure French 18th century style, contributing to the New York World Fair in 1939 and the very first manifestations of French Art Deco in Paris. Joël Féau joined the firm afterward, "and continued this activity and considerably enlarged the collection of period documents, as well as taking part in the first Biennales des Antiquaires et des Décorateurs in Paris." Today, the beautiful decorative woodwork can be viewed at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and also at the Getty Museum. Additionally (more recently), they are working on projects across the globe—from Chicago to Tokyo.

Isn't the work heavenly? At the very top, we see an example of one of their watercolors (with more here), and below, just a sampling of their many accomplishments.

Weekly Finds № 28

This week's discoveries and links, beginning with:

01 Bernadette Pascua: A wonderful creative, with a keen eye and quite the talent. Perhaps you have seen her illustrations and images featured before, here and there. But for some who have not, I had to share a sampling of her creations with you, and to encourage you to explore her blog for additional inspiration.

02 Smythe: After purchasing my very first blazer from Smythe, I was looking forward to featuring this great Canadian company with you. Their well-designed jackets and coats are "contemporary, flawlessly-tailored" and "feature nostalgic colors, textures and prints that are distinct in their traditional menswear tailoring details."

03 For those who appreciate beautiful lettering: Steven Heller and Louise Fili’s latest collaboration: a wonderful book
04 Shari, of Little Blue Deer, featured the most amazing study/library with rows and rows of books
05 Linda, of Simply Seductive, shared a delicious vanilla caramel with sea salt recipe
